Joe's World on a Plate - First Episode

Television (Full Length Episode) – 2013

In this bilingual cooking series made for Māori Television, chef Joe McLeod calls on a career that has taken him to 36 different countries. Presenting in both English and te reo, he prepares international dishes that include New Zealand ingredients and elements of traditional Māori cuisine. In this debut episode, he adapts one of his mother’s favourite dishes from his childhood, substituting salmon for her Taupō trout, and serves it with pūhā, dried kawakawa leaves and a simple Māori herb sauce. The programme’s main course is liver sautee with a tangy lemon herb sauce, and the dessert is a colourful peach and plum trifle.

Everything I do is for our people, I was surprised how many tribes have no clue about the foods that grew in their area; this is my koha to them, to give it back.
– Joe McLeod in The Rotorua Daily Herald, 12 January 2013
